Muyambe Foundation works within Rubaga Division, a division centred in the heart of Kampala a few minutes from the City Centre. Rubaga Division holds a number of very poor slum communities, these include Nakulabye, Kosovo, Kasubi, and Nabulagala. Our children come from these slum communities, and are all just a short walk from one another.
Our office is centred in Zone 2 of Nakulabye and is in an easily accessible location for all our families.

A slum, is defined as a “heavily populated urban informal settlement characterised by substandard housing and low standards of living”. They represent the worst of urban poverty and our families are heavily impacted by the vicious cycle of poverty. Being from very vulnerable communities our families are marginalised in many ways. Their economic background has determined their child’s educational outcomes and prospects in life. This is due to a high cost of education, low incomes and low employment rates. Communities face challenges such as diseases, air pollution, inadequate access to safe water, inadequate access to sanitation, poor structural quality of housing, overcrowding and high rental prices. Our parents and guardians are working-class many are running small businesses, driving boda bodas (motorcycles), or working on roadside markets.

We commenced in 2019 as a response from Roxy and Joseph Sekatte. Joseph is a local, who grew up within the community and in a family who struggled to afford his school fees. It was through boxing, (sports development) he was given the opportunities to receive a quality education. Muyambe Foundation, steams from his heart and passion for the children within his community to receive the same access to quality education. We offer an access to sponsorship programs, social programmes and projects that enhance quality education for slum children. Within our community you will find children laughing and playing, people greeting one another knowing each other by name, teenagers playing pool and busy restaurants filled with welcomed greetings. Despite, its identity as a ‘slum’… this is our community. A home to the next generation, who only need the right opportunities to learn and excel.
