We have created a holistic child sponsorship program that connects with parents and the community to offer a solution through education. We aim to provide child-focused support by equipping the children and their parents with the knowledge to better themselves for their future. We believe a key factor in creating a successful sponsorship program is advocacy, as many of our parents have given up hope of being able to pay for their children’s school fees altogether.
We do this through home visits, visiting their children at their schools, and creating a relationship with their teachers, as well as offering counselling and career guidance. We also offer emergency support as well as medical support if there is a need. The children we have allocated to be part of our sponsorship program, are all members of Muyambe.
As a key goal for Muyambe Foundation is to create community resilience, our staff assesses each child case by case. For some, we will pay for the full school fees, for others half, and for most, we require the parents to provide their scholastics materials. In doing this we believe we are still giving their parents/ or caregivers responsibility whilst supporting them with financial assistance where it’s needed most.
When a child is sponsored, they write letters to their sponsors, we believe that this is a powerful way in which a child can feel connected.
Child sponsorship changes lives, it is a simple yet extremely important tool, that brings a child access to education. In Uganda it is an injustice that many children do not have the financial means to receive an education. In sponsoring a child, they are giving a child the tools to break the cycle of poverty and achieve their potential.
